| The Ceramic Tiles of Italy Playground shows the performance
characteristics, functionality and design potential of Italian ceramic tiles on
a human scale, or rather, on a child’s scale. |

The best of Italian ceramic tiles was on display at the
Triennale in Milan, where seven Confindustria Ceramica member companies
presented innovative urban design proposals devoted to sustainable, healthy
living and the world of children. The exhibit was a favorite among Milan
Furniture Fair attendees and promises to gain as much attention at the next
edition of Cersaie.
The Ceramic Tiles of Italy
Playground, as it is fittingly called, will welcome guests to the world’s
largest exhibit of ceramic tile and sanitaryware, which will be held in
Bologna, Italy from September 28 – October 2, 2010. This wide-ranging
initiative brings together manufacturers of ceramic tiles, bathroom furnishings
and installation products, all key sectors that play an important role in the
success of a show like Cersaie.
The intention of the initiative is
to present ceramic on a human scale, or rather on a child’s scale. It shows off
the performance characteristics, functionality and design potential of Italian
ceramic tiles.
Coordinated by Aldo Colonetti with
exhibit design by Franco Origoni, the innovative exhibition features the work
of seven leading Italian ceramic manufacturers. Paired with Italian architects
and designers, they were asked to create a piece inspired by play, free time
and a human-scale city, themes that are increasingly coming to the attention of
citizens and public administrations.
Casalgrande Padana commissioned
Studio 5+1 AA to create “Diamante Magico”; Ceramiche Coem showcased
“Crystaltile” by Giacomo Sanna; Cooperativa Ceramica di Imola with “Prospettive
Magiche” by Massimiliano Raggi; Etruria Design presented “Tappeto Volante” by
S.O.S. Matteo Origoni; MAPEI worked with Matteo Beraldi to create “Labyrinth”;
Marazzi partnered with Massimiliano Pescio on a project called
“Cerlabirintino”; and Simas asked the Terri Pecora design firm to develop “Kid
at Earth.”
Similar to previous exhibitions organized
by Confindustria Ceramica, the installation was created as an opportunity for
companies to showcase their most original and innovative products. At a time of
radical transformation in the ceramic market, it is also an important platform
for the development of a new approach to the conception, design and manufacture
of ceramic – an approach that centers on originality, just like the world of
children.
