The Water Cube, one of the most sustainable venues ever built, was also designed to conserve water, a major issue in North China. The 100,000 square meters (1,076,000 square feet) of ETFE foils (cushions) on the outer surface and roof facade can annually collect 10,000 tons of rainwater.
