On August 8, 2008, the eyes of the world shift to Beijing, Mainland China, for the commencement of the Games of the XXIX Olympiad. Beijing, literally translated as “Northern Capital,” is the capital of the People’s Republic of China and the second largest city on the Mainland.
The 20th UNICERA Ceramic and Bathroom Trade Fair, held in
Istanbul, Turkey, recently, hosted more than 60,000 attendees, a record for
this event, say organizers. Compared to the first show held in April 1988 with
100 square meters of space and 8,500 attendees, the 2008 exhibition had grown
to encompass more than 40,000 square meters with from more than 170 exhibitors.

Editors of TILE Magazine, along
with its sister publications National Floor Trends
and Floor Covering Installer, returned from
an exciting Surfaces 2008 show that shed new light and ambition on the topic of
environmental concerns. Not only were there more “green” products and companies
on display, but the prevalence of technology, design and function proved to be
a key point in the majority of the participating companies.
Here is a brief glimpse of what was
seen during the show. A full recap, along with that of Cevisama’s, will follow
in the March issue of TILE, so make sure to check back!
Organizers of the upcoming Surfaces show have lined up various industry veterans
and educators for its 2008 Conference Program — each of which will bring to the
table their brand of proven experiences to help attendees reach their business
potential, says show organizer Hanley Wood, and show sponsor World Floor
Covering Association (WFCA).
